HIM return, after the parenthesis “ Venus Doom” ( confused and quite incomprehensible release just for its commercial self-injury which is the bearer ) is not with an “happy” album but, for the first time, in their approach there is awareness that something is present, a mood definable as “happiness”, even it is far away.
The band continues to use dark atmospheres, but in general, the result is definitely pop-oriented and the nuance that embellish the melodic passages and catchy chorus, are addressing to the past, hoping that the music business could have the same receptivity in their regards.
The influence of the “Razorblade Romance” and “Love Metal” authors on the European public, unlikely will suffer setbacks, regardless of what will be the next steps, but is equally out of any doubt that this album, entirely recorded in the U.S.A, represent a fundamental chapter in reinforcing the consensus overseas.
Money and success don’t help you to feel lesser alone, and that particular state of mind, which experiences the one who thinks to have his wishes completely satisfied, appears as an utopian and abstract concept, to the eye of the losers or people who suffer.
“First of all, some songs are about the way to reach the happiness and the admission that it is really possible to reach” says nervously Ville Valo “Some other tracks, like ‘In Venere Veritas’ and ‘Heartkiller’ are quite classical, but the wait to know what is the people opinion it’s really hard to face. The emotional changes regarding the gloomy tones in records like ‘Dark Light’ and ‘Venus Doom’ are free of doubt as well as the changes in my private life. Someone told that quit drinking is not for me, so I suppose to be more attractive when I’m messed up. People need some kind of Baudelaire or Bukowski who embodies their pains, and I assure you that is easier to say than do. Thanks to sobriety I felt that my drug was the album so I’ve worked on it night and day. It was a very cathartic process that led me to create a nude and skinny music, in the easiest way. I didn’t have something to lose and songs like ‘Disarm Me (With Your Loneliness)’ have no lack in honesty.”

Telling the truth, “ Screamworks: Love In theory and practice” is more balanced respect “Venus Doom” and its production is aimed at highlighting undeniable charmer talent and charisma of the Finns’ leader. At the beginning the choice to work with Matt Squire, in the past the producer of Panic! At The Disco, Boys Like Girls and Taking Back Sunday, had raised several doubts, but now that the album is in every record shop, lot of people will see him, as the right man, at the right time. “ Matt and I, have got the same age, and we’ve grown up listening the same kind of music and can make references that both of us can understand. The band has always been favourable to musical disagreements and our tastes often differ. We discussed how should the record sound and we concluded that we wanted something between the Gun'N'Roses and Depeche Mode, or between A-Ha and the Cult. We decided to create the delicate sensibilities of pop melancholy, but with the muscles of rock: The Smiths mixed with Black Sabbath, just to understand. To do this we needed the typical American drum sound and a lot of freedom in the studio.”

In Ville’s voice there is the awareness of a mix between pride and tension. The path for the alcohol detoxification process have travelled nearly parallel to the disc and his words seem heavier traces of colour which define the faint outlines of a plan initially only approximate. In fact also the cover image, transformed and distorted, a clear tribute to the work of Andy Warhol, seems to remember how during our existence for many years, is possible to have a fragmentary view, or not corresponding to the truth, regarding people around us. “The focal point of the album can be identified in what I like to call "a melancholy light”. Is that kind of solar tragedy that Depeche Mode express very well. 'Enjoy The Silence' is a song can make you dance, or it’s a sad song. This was my general idea and, compared to the past, the combination of darkness and destruction is not predominant. It’s much more sad to see that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, as you know that there is something better, but it is impossible to grasp. It needs for a "step forward" in personal and spiritual level, and you will be able to swim to the shore, but the beach is far away and full of enemies ready to attack. A form of torture for which you are chained to four horses that pull you in four different directions. Is this the main concept behind the album. "

“Let’s fall apart together now”, like this starts “In Venere Veritas” condensing in a few seconds the essence of “Screamworks: Love in Theory and Practice” and reminding us that human beings are fragile and destined to wither. "The sense is that all we are doomed to disintegrate, so why not do it together?" I find it a very romantic idea. There's no irony and pain must be shared, regardless of the sentence that has to be suffered. Listening to music makes beat heart and, since I was boy it has been my medicine. I usually put on a record of Kiss or Black Sabbath and thereby avoid thinking about the people who bothered me and cleared my mind of worries. In life I always led all to excess. Loneliness has been a great companion during all these years, but it's time to open the door to the world and leave behind the hard times. Robert Lowell, an American poet who died in the late 70s, has wrote that the light at the end of the tunnel is an oncoming train. This is a classic of the pessimists, the caustic humour of those who enjoy the hope, knowing that it’s going to have bad impact on them. Is true that we see a light at the end the tunnel and , if it's an oncoming train coming or not, we have a few seconds to enjoy it before it hits us. That is the key of the whole album and at the same time, the way I celebrate life. "

The analysis ends with "Dying Song" and "Katherine Wheel", two other steps needed to penetrate deeply into the essence of an album that intended to give something to discuss both to critical and audience. "The first can be considered an experiment influenced by " Disintegration ", by The Cure and " Ritual De Lo Habitual” by the Jane's Addiction, while with the second the group managed to combine the original inspiration of the history of Santa Caterina from Alexandria with her instrument of torture related to miracles and martyrdom, filtering all through the romantic poets and... Iron Maiden, to explore the concepts of excess and insatiable impulse "

собственно, чего новенького можно ожидать, когда представляют альбом... Это даже не рецензия (которых я не люблю и все равно не читаю), а так, "Знакомьтесь, Джо Блэк"...
Почему все так Винус Дум не любят? Раз он плохо продавался, все поставили клеймо "коммерческое самоубийство" и решили, что это синоним "отстойному". Откуда это отношение "некоммерческий = плохой"?
